Welcome to Waitotara School

School Mission Statement

Waitotara School will provide a safe, positive learning environment where students achieve independence and develop essential academic and social skills.

Waitotara School has been operating since 1874. We accommodate the learning needs of student from years 1 to 8. Our school has excellent facilities and has been fully refurbished following the devastating floods of February 2004. We are located in pleasant surroundings adjacent to the township of Waitotara, just off State Highway 3. We have a supportive school (and wider) community.

Being a small, rural school has many advantages for our children. We are involved in a Cluster group with five other schools, and we regularly get together with these schools for sporting events and competitions, science fairs and art competitions.

Year 7 and 8 children travel to Wanganui to attend Technology classes that include woodwork, sewing, cooking, etc.

We encourage parental help at our school. There are many areas where this help is invaluable, including various out of school trips and activities, and our end of year function.

In 2009 we became a 'Duffy Books in Schools' school. This is a wonderful programme where we receive free books regularly for all the children. We are also a “Fruit in Schools” school, where we receive beautiful seasonal fruit delivered twice a week to school for all children and staff.

We become involved in many other activities throughout the year such as:

  • Technology Challenge
  • South Taranaki Library visits
  • World Vision Kids for Kids Concerts
  • Close relationship with the Department of Conservation and planting of our local River Mouth
  • Duffy Assemblies
